New Work Digs – a bit of a distraction?

After spending the last five years working from home, I decided it was time to mix things up and look for a new environment to work from. Ok that is not totally true… if I am to be 100% honest here, my main motivations to work away from home were: + I was starting to feel a bit trapped within the walls of my house + I was needing a clearly defined separation between my work, study and home life + The days would roll by, weekends would come and go, and I started to feel like I was  ...

The Furniture with a Future!

These would have to be my favourite chairs! I bought them about 6 years ago in Auckland for $12 a piece. The brand is AIREST – ‘The Furniture with a Future’. They are definitely keepers, not only because they are sooooo comfy, they are also the easiest design to recover for a completely different look. So when we moved back to Australia they had to come for the ride! The first time I recovered the chairs I used IKEA fabric, and it was my first ever attempt at recovering  ...

Emotional Retro Roller Coaster

$1 Reserve – “Three Chairs” OMG, I was scouting eBay about a month ago and look what I spotted. I couldn’t believe my eyes… $1 reserve, based in Adelaide and a listing titled “3 x chairs”. Yes these were the real deal. My opportunity to finally own an original *Featherson – 3 in fact! Anyway, when I placed my auto bid, there was one other bidder and so the bid climbed to $25 with me being in the lead. So it appeared the other bidder  ...

The Key

The Key Blame the key I say… yes that is what sold me on this teak Fler Sideboard. The turning mechanism makes the coolest sound when you lock and unlock the door. Kind of clunky sounding but retro cool. I just had to have this key, so lucky I liked the sideboard that came with it! Original Fler Teak Sideboard A little collection displayed on the Sideboard. Fler Teak Sideboard Bits and bobs in the hallway…• Fler teak sideboard from Lou’s Shed in Unley • Painting by Artist  ...

My Modern Nest

It’s new, it’s retro modern and I love it. My Modern Nest is a sparkly new shop that recently opened its doors in Port Adelaide. (Actually the official opening was on Sunday, and first day of trade yesterday.) I have been crazy flat out this week so missed the opening, but a quick visit today was the perfect way to temporarily escape the Messagemark madness.  Light and Bright Shop Space – just what we like! Just some lovely details in the shop. I want that paper  ...

I love LEGS! (of the retro kind!)

Another one of my creations from the weekend. I wanted a bench seat to go in my hallway, but was struggling to find something that suited our home or wasn’t too big.  So brainwave in the middle of the night… Use a floating shelf (that we already had) and add some cool retro legs (from a laminex coffee table I had in storage). Voila! How cutsie is this? I am now on the hunt for LEGS!! If anyone has retro legs (including table legs) lying around their place, send them my way  ...
